The local community group ‘Kick Start Fakenham’ is organizing this summer’s Fakenham Fair and its associated events, following on from the success of last year’s Fair.
One of the group’s other ideas was to organize a week-long event for the town in the lead-up to the Fair itself. It was initially thought that a beer festival might be a good event. However, rather than compete with Fakenham venues and as a way to include all Fakenham clubs and pubs in this promotion (who don’t all sell real ale) it was suggested that a Fakenham Pub & Club Festival may be a better way to approach it and that’s what we decided on.

We realize that pubs and clubs are finding it tough these days, so this may go a little way to help by bringing in some new custom to all our town’s establishments rather than to compete with them by, in effect, running a separate festival event.
Our idea was that all pubs/clubs in the town should join in, each in their own way – some running an ale promotion, some putting on a music gig and others maybe running with a theme, having a quiz or a special food menu during the week. Each could decide how they’d best fit into the festival.
The plan is to attract visitors into the town during that week (the one before August Bank Holiday – Fakenham Fair is on Sat 27th August) who will be presented with a ready-made reason to visit each of the town’s participating pubs and clubs, be it for music, food, real ale or whatever.
We are hoping to further encourage customer visits by planning a kind of ‘loyalty scheme’ during the week with a prize draw for customers of the most pub/club events (see our prize draw page for info).
